Taking the Bus or Train:
From Ireland West (Knock) Airport:
Take a bus from the Airport to Westport, and connect with another bus to Achill Island.

Then take the #450 bus from Westport to Achill Island: (Search in View Timetables here for the number 450 bus).
From Shannon Airport: Take a bus to Galway and then make a bus connection to Westport, Co. Mayo. There are no trains from Shannon Airport.
From Dublin: Take
the train from Heuston Station (Dublin) to Westport (click here to plan your train journey) and then take the #450 bus to Achill. (Search in View Timetables here for the number 450 bus). Buses from Dublin Westport are also available, see https://www.buseireann.ie for timetables.
From Westport, Co. Mayo to Achill Island: Take the #450 bus from Mill Street in Westport to Achill. (Search in View Timetables here for the number 450 bus). The bus drives onto the island, there is a bridge. Get
off the bus between Dooniver and Dugort, at The Valley Crossroads (tell the driver you want to go to The
Valley House and he will let you off close to our entrance,
which is signposted there at the crossroads).Turn right into our gateway/entrance, our house is at the end of a 300m avenue.
Please Note: The normal timetable shows times for Monday to Saturday. Please view the specific "Sundays and Public Holidays" section of the bus timetable to get accurate bus times if you wish to travel on those days.
Flying:
There are many options to fly into Ireland, using Dublin, Shannon, Kerry and Cork airports. The closest Airport to Achill Island is Ireland
West (Knock) Airport - click here to see their website and a list of scheduled and charter flights. Ireland West (Knock) Airport is 85km from Achill Island.
You can
hire a car at any airport and drive to Achill Island, which is connected to the mainland by a bridge.

Driving:
Road access to Achill Island is via Westport or Castlebar, County Mayo.
Driving from Dublin take the M4 Motorway and the N4 to Longford, then the N5 through to Strokestown and on to Castlebar. Take the R311 to Newport, go through Mulranny village
and onto the R319 to Achill Island (there is a bridge onto the island
at Achill Sound).
Driving from Galway,
take the M17 Motorway via Tuam, then take the N17 to Claremorris and via Castlebar, take the R311 to Newport and through to Mulranny village. From Mulranny take the R319 on to
Achill.
Driving from Northern Ireland,
head for Sligo, then take the N17 to Tubbercurry. At Charlestown, take
the N5 to Castlebar. Take the R311 road to Newport, on to Mulranny village and then the R319
to Achill.
Driving Directions
from Achill Sound to The Valley House:
- After crossing the bridge onto the island, drive straight through Achill Sound and drive about 5km out the road
to Cashel. (You will pass Ted Lavelle's pub and the petrol station on your right).
Keep going on this road and drive on to Bunnacurry. TURN RIGHT on to L1406 (you will see a sign for
The Valley House Bar). Stay on this road for 5km, go straight through the
crossroads (The Valley House is signposted here also) - The Valley House entrance is 200m on the right. The house is at the end of a 300m driveway.
While driving around Achill Island
you may find some of the signs do not have the English place names...here
