Hostel FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

What are the methods of payment?

When making a reservation a credit or debit card is required to guarantee the booking.

You can call us on +353-85-2167688 to make a reservation or use our secure online booking system to check availability and reserve your place at The Valley House. If you book directly with us, you can save 15% or more over other third party booking sites.

What is the Cancellation Policy?
- Your credit card can be charged for the full amount of the stay any time after the reservation is made.
- We usually charge your card for the entire amount of the stay 3 days before arrival.
- If you need to cancel the booking, please do so no later than 72 hours (3 days) prior to arrival. If less than 72 hours notice of cancellation is given, we reserve the right to charge your credit card for the full amount of the stay. This amount is non-refundable.
- In the event of a "no-show", you will be charged for the full amount of your reservation.
- If you arrive late, or check out prior to the reserved departure date, you will be charged for the entire stay.
- For non-refundable rate bookings the full amount will be charged at the time of booking. Non-refundable bookings will not be refunded if cancelled.

Is breakfast included in the price?
Yes, a continental breakfast buffet is included in your rate, served in our Dining Room from 8am-10am. We provide Orange/Apple Juice, Tea/Coffee, Cereals, Fruit, Yoghurt, Cold Meats & Cheese, Boiled Eggs, Toast, Bagels, Butter & Jam - Gluten Free, Vegan & Dairy Free options available. You can also bring your own food with you and you can use our guest kitchen facilities to prepare and eat your meals.

Is bed linen provided?
Bed sheets, pillows and duvets are provided.

Do you provide towels and shampoo and soap?
You should bring your own toiletries (e.g. shampoo, shower gel). Towels are provided as standard in the private rooms. Dormitory room guests can request a towel at check-in if required.

What are the check in and check out times?
Check-in: From 3pm-9pm. Late check-ins can be accommodated on request.
Check-out: By 11am

Can I leave my luggage and valuables in a safe place?
Ask a member of staff and they will put your luggage away safely. If you have valuable items or cash that you want put away in a safe, we can do that for you. The Valley House is not responsible for loss, damage or theft of any personal property or cash on the premises or in the grounds.

Are the bedrooms ensuite?
We have some private rooms ensuite and some with private bathroom located across the hall.*
Our dormitory rooms have shared bathroom facilities located inside the room. See Room Types & Prices in the right hand panel of this web page.

*Due to the layout of our Victorian house, our Twin rooms and one of our two Family rooms have their own private shower/WC located across the hall (rather than inside the rooms). The shower/WC room has a pin access lock and is for private use of the room occupants (it is not shared with other rooms).

What is the difference between a Twin and Double room?
A Twin room contains two single beds. A Double room has one King (or American Queen) size bed. Both sleep up to 2 guests.

Can I bring my children?
Children and family groups are very welcome at The Valley House. However, please note that children are not allowed in dormitories with other guests so family groups either need to book private rooms or need to reserve a whole dormitory for their group. Private rooms and smaller dorms have limited availability so book early! Please contact us directly for discounted family rates when booking an entire dormitory room. Contact us also if you are not sure what room to book or need assistance.

Can I bring my dog or other pets?
Unfortunately we cannot allow dogs and other pets inside the hostel.

Do I have to be a member of a hostel organisation?
No. The Valley House is an independent hostel and there are no membership fees or cards involved.

Is smoking allowed in the hostel?
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the hostel or in the Bar. But you can smoke just outside the Bar, and anywhere else outside and in the courtyard. Please use the ashtrays provided.

Is parking included?
You can park for free outside the hostel or in an extended car park adjacent to the hostel.

Is there free WiFi?
Yes, but please bear in mind that we are in a rural area and while the broadband service is reasonably good, it will not be as fast as in a town/city with a fibre broadband service. Also The Valley House is a Victorian building with 3-foot thick walls in places, so you may have to find a good spot to go online! But most rooms in the house are ok for connecting.

Do you accept Group Bookings?
We are very happy to accept group bookings of 10 or more people and have many years of experience in dealing with groups of all sizes and ages. For more information on Group bookings please see our Groups page.

Double Ensuite
Private Double room with 1 large Double bed, sleeps 2 sharing. Ensuite Shower/WC.

Twin Room, Private External Bathroom
Private room with 2 single beds. Private shower/wc across the hall for use of this room only (not inside the room).

Family Room Ensuite
Private ensuite family room with 1 large Double bed and 1 bunk bed. Sleeps up to 4 people. Ensuite Shower/WC.

Family Room, Private External Bathroom
Private family room with 1 Large Double Bed and 1 bunk bed. Sleeps up to people. Private shower/wc across the hall for use of this room only (not inside the room).

10-Bed Dorm, Courtyard Ensuite
Mixed (Male and Female) Dormitory room in our Courtyard Building. 2 x Ensuite shower rooms, built in adult sized bunk beds with reading light and USB chargers (sleeps 10).

6-Bed Female Dorm, Courtyard Ensuite
Dormitory room in our Courtyard building for females only. Ensuite shower/wc room, built-in adult sized bunkbeds with reading light and USB chargers (sleeps 6). Can accommodate male/female as long as entire dorm room is booked for the family/group.

*Please note if you have children in the group they can only go in a dormitory room if the whole room is booked by your group.

Sorry, we cannot accommodate camping or camper vans at The Valley House.
